      Yes, Gentlemen,

it must have been worn by " Hptm Muencheberg " nick named

the 'Falcon of Malta' since he's shot down over 20 fighters within

      3 months !

his squadron had been stationed in 'Catania" early 1941 ..

Whoever has an original pic of him ... please !!!!!!!!!!!!!1

                Very nice J1 Wolf,

                I read:

                " W.Fritz Lt. Neuhausen 2. Aufklärungsgruppe 121 Ostpreußen"

How is this linked to an Hauptmann Müncheberg who shot down 20 Fighters

Looks like there is silver finish inside the scratch marks, what does this mean?
Is it the picture or is the J1 wreath made out of german silver or ... ?

J1s are known with both the eagle and wreath in neusilber, both the eagle and wreath in tombak or a combination of both (possible echt silber examples aside). No problems seeing no indications of tombak on one of these.

                          Regards

                            Dear All,

                            Hi Mats,

yes indeed the inscription "Ostpreussen" seems to having been carved

by a different person ...later on (?) .... not being extremely familiar with

the way the name was written ?

I wonder if it should have been written as 'sz' when carved intended to

                            remind 'whoever'

that this airfield had been in 'East Prussia' / Germany

or if that person simply could care less !?

I personally don't care much for these inscriptions ... !

I agree with Sonntag (and others); awarded to a reconnaissance pilot not a fighter pilot.

                              Lovely badge all the same
