O.K. Guys - Here is a badge that I own. It's a beautiful plated tombak flak badge. But the thing that puzzles me is there is a #5 on the back. I saw an identical one on Lorenzo's website without any mark whatsoever, and it was categorized there as "maker unknown" So I wrote to Lorenzo to ask him his thoughts on mine, thinking maybe it was a Hermann Wernstein (LDO #5). But he wrote back telling me that Wernstein made a zinc badge that looked entirely different and Wernstein had a unique hinge/catch on their badges, which, once I thought about it, made sense. So, does anyone have any idea what the #5 on the following pictured badge would mean? Lieferant number? Early war Wernstein? Does anyone else have one marked like this? Thoughts please!!!

I think we're actually looking at 2 different hinges. In comparing one to the other, take a real close look at not only how the hinge is inset into the badge but note that the design of the hinge actually is different.Last edited by Tony Barto; 07-29-2002, 10:39 AM.Best regards,

I dont know, the more I look at Detlevs badge and the one posted by Zerstorer, I see more similiarities than not. The edge profile, the hole cut out, the depression in the center all seem to be identical.
Interesting comparison to the Adolf Sholz badge..can someone post one of them?

Well?
C'mon guys, don't let this thing die - I really want to know what the hell the "5" is for! Does ANYONE else have a answer or opinion to the matter?
