Finally, another fake, this one again with the same setup as yours, Langemark. Mark stays the same.

Chances are, if somebody offers you a "rare Buntmetall Osang para", you will end up with crap in your hands.
I have yet to see ONE original Buntmetall Osang para badge.
          Cheers, Frank

            Dear Frank,

Little question what is your opinion in relation to the bubbling on Mark's badge. Just looked at all the pics of this fake in my files but non of them feature the zink bubbling.

IYO was this intentionaly don by the bad guys to make there copies more convincing or is this just the result of storage?

I have no idea, but even that bubbling does not look really convincing to me. Even if it would, it certainly does not make this fake badge any more original.

                Dear Frank,

I agree if your familiar with this fake the bubbling won't fool you, but for people who are not familiar with it it just one more feature that could lead them to decide that it must be original.

However like you wrote it's not the type of bubbling you see on originals. It reminds me of the bubbles my old beetle tended to develope under it's paint work.

Many thanks to you, Frank, for taking the time answering so rapidly. Once again, you gave an accurate and extensively documented reply. You helped me to realize that I am the proud owner of a fake “unique Osang Fallschirmschützenabzeichen in Buntmetall”.

As you rightly commented, Philippe, the convincing bubbling was the leading factor that influenced me to pick-up that badge. Beside this, I think we can agree that the detail of this fake badge is very nice.

Anyhow, I reassure you that I didn’t buy it as a so-called “rare Buntmetall Osang para-badge” but simply thought to make a good buy at a correct price for a regular para-badge. This being said, the price still remains too high for a fake, but that is the price we have to pay for the lessons when not doing our homework.

I will survive that sad reality … and maybe I should go back and stay to uniforms !

Thank you again and have a nice Week-end,

                  Mark

                    Dear Mark,

Just one more sidenote: If there (theoretically possible) ever will be a believable early Osang Buntmetall para badge (and the seller knows what he has), the price will be rather high and not the one of a usual para badge.
                    Cheers, Frank

Yes, Frank, I agree with you. However, the seller was visibly not a dealer and he didn’t even try to persuade me it was a rare “Buntmetall Osang Fallschirmschützenabzeichen”. I persuaded myself that it was a nice early Osang badge. Anyway, I am the only responsible for my own stupidity and lack of knowledge !

One futher note to take into consideration, and I only mention it so that others do not make the same mistake... The fakers would have produced this badge to look like a zinc example not buntmetal as buntmetal does not bubble..

Mark, we've all been there and, I for one, know how you feel..
                        Warmest Regards ... John
