Questions about the differences between Pilot Badge and Pilot Observer

    Hey guys...

    Question.

I am new with collecting badges and such...and have a question with the color differences between the pilot and pilot observer.

With the pilot badge, it is basically described as being silver-colored eagle on a silver colored wreath...with the eagle generally being darker.

When I look at the examples in photos shown on this site, many of the wreaths appear to be slightly gold in color on the wreath itself.

The only time the gold wreath is discussed is when talking about the pilot/observer.

I picked this up recently, thinking it was an early pilot badge, but after viewing a few different photos on various websites, I am thinking it is an early pilot/observer, instead.

    Can anyone confirm?

    TIA

    Mike

Hi mate, I would say your badge is a normal pilot badge.

But wait for the experts to chime in.

That's a very nice B&N L pilot badge you have. It is not a pilot/observer though...the front has a frosting which was lacquered and over time has taken a yellowish appearance.

              Hi Mike,

I can only agree with the others, a nice original Pilot badge. As Rich says, these B&NL wreaths often take on a yellowish appearance, you can see the same on their Paratrooper badges as well. The fact that the eagle is dark is a sure sign of a pilot badge as well.
