Gentlemen,
as previously mentioned I did neglect all essential prerequisits (lighting etc)
Apparently pictures can be taken only in bright daylight.
That's why I am extremely grateful for you all taking so much time to help !
In hand the badge actually looks like a beauty, by far better than on any
picture !
If you could get a closer look and possibly arrive at a more favourable
decision ??
Anyway, thanks for helping !
Very best regards
Wolf
I think after the new pictures provided that the badge is OK ..
Pictures can help a lot, but they also can ruin a lot ..
Good natural light is essential, but not directly on the badge, sometimes better to cover the angle where the light comes in by putting a big sheet of paper between the object and the light... or so ..
My best results were by holding the object on flat hand and trying different locations outside the house, bit of twisting and turning on the spot and see what the light does with the object..
I'm bad in taking pictures though, my best results were with the cheapest camera ..
Is that the same badge? ONLY KIDDING! New shots in daylight on plain white background are a MAJOR improvement. Good job. The wreath looks like it should. Without glare and reflections, the real colors are what they should be, and the details are there. As you can see, images that truly represent the badge are all we have to go on, so quality is important.
Here are a couple of cheap tips to use when photographing.
The SHIM. Particularly useful when photographing Luft Badges that don't want to lay flat. Small pieces of anything within eyesight work well, and if you make them small enough, they hide under the wings or wreath.
The SHADOW ELIMINATOR. Sounds expensive? It doesn't require time in Photoshop or the purchase of a light box. A miracle product, no doubt....
Before with nasty shadows:
After with the eliminator:
And the miracle product:
A PIECE OF PAPER ADJUSTED JUST AT THE RIGHT ANGLE TO YOUR INDIRECT LIGHT SOURCE.
what an incredibly superb looking J1 you showed....congatulations !!
I will try hard to follow your advice !
No matter what and when you do things for the first time....
you feel like a fool when comparing your rather mediocre attempts
with the experts' expertise.
Please accept my sincere appreciation.

For me is this badge without any doubt a original P/O J2, rivets , stamp, gold finish , all OK.
I think the badge had a problem with moisture, corrosion for a long time , ( feather back ) and has her deceived many a little.
When you here on WAF not show perfectly pics or TEXTBOOK BADGES you'll quickly disappointed
Many members here IMO to hastily with his comments by bad pics, i think you should not forget we spoek often over badges with high worth.
And all here know often have change the opinion by a hand inspection.
