    LW Glider by Osang...opinions

I've never had one of these, well made but oh the fakes are so good! Opinions?

    #2
Osang didn't make glider pilot's. Here's the ones that did:

    Juncker
    BSW
    Unknown maker (fat eagle)
    S&L (probably post-1945?)
    Unknown maker (ball hinge?)
    Assmann (?)

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Greg! I'm I misreading then or is there an error on the forum page about Glider Pilot badges that lists Osang?

You're reading correctly but IMO that is wrong as Osang & Deumer are not known makers of GP's. If I'm wrong (happens all the time) love to find out

Interesting! Thanks. It's a fine looking badge but not a direct vet buy and I'm sure not a German badge fella!

            Greg's right, this is fake!
No original Osang mm'd GPB has been found so far!
If the fakers get better in the future, that's when we'll start finding "originals"

I can only agree, this is not an original badge.

Osang and Deumer are not makers of originals Gliders, however these 2 names are commonly used on fakes for some reason.

Agree with the above comments. My (aging) 'total recall' may be slipping, but I'm not aware of Osang making any Tombak Luft awards. The ones that come to mind (Ground Assault, Para, & Flight Bars) are all zinkers.

                  Hi Mark,

That is mostly true, but Osang did make tombak Bomber Clasps. And their LGABs do sometimes have tombak eagles, but for the most part you are right, you should be very suspicious of any Osang badge made from tombak.

                      Hi Tom,

Are those the clasps with the milled out reverse centers? Were they maker marked? Are they identified by hardware, or die?

                      Thanks,
                      Mark

                            Thanks Sebastian,

Beautiful gilting on the Tombak base metal. And with the unmistakable triangular cut-outs!

                            Regards,
                            Mark

PS - I haven't even checked my badges lately. It appears that I have a similar Tombak Osang Bomber piece to yours! I forget what I have.

                              Hi Mark,

Yes, Seb shows a nice tombak Osang bomber. They do indeed have the depressed center, but were not milled out like some other makers. Osang made the depression part of the reverse die, which eliminated the need for the extra step of milling out the center.

When Osang switched to zinc, they decided to do away with the depressed center (probably due to the brittleness of the zinc). Here is one of my zinc Osang's with the typical, flat back.
