    Glide Badge

I'd posted this badge here about a year ago but got opposite opinions about the catch and pin. I as have a potential buyer, I want to be 100% sure if they were replaced or not. Maybe the new photos will help...

          Glider badge

          Hello Alex

A very nice original C.E.Juncker badge for sure. I also think that the catch is re-attached. The (discoloured) blob is a serius indication of that.

About the pin that is harder to say but there are also indications for it.

            Hi Alex,

I would tend to agree with Stijn. The catch looks good, and the finish on the top of the catch seems to match the finish on the badge. However, the finish is missing on the bottom part of the catch, which is unnatural and a sign of a repair IMO.

The sloppy look of the hingepin also suggests its a repair or replacement, which means the pin could very well be a replacement as well. It looks good to me, so very possibly taken from another Juncker badge.

            Tom
If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Stijn, Tom, thank you for your replies! Even if they aren't so optimistic now... I've tried to get the best from my camera - here is the closeups of the catch. I've marked with red what looks like an original solder to me...

                  I agree, excellent pics!

From what I can see, I think the outer hinge segments are probably original as there appears to be original (but polished) plated finish on/under them (the solder is porous though, causing some "pockmarks"). Having said that, the inner edge of the reverse right barrel segment does not appear to line up with the cut mark on the top edge of the wreath, so there may be a carefull older repair in this area.

The hinge pin is imo a definite replacement and the main pin, although imo a period original, is probably also a replacement. Re the catch, either the original catch re-attached or a period replacement.

The eagle and rivets look unmessed with, so it's only hardware in question.

Given the components and quality of the repairs, this may have been done during wartime anyway.

Whatever the case, it's a desirable original badge with no issues on the obverse.

                  Regards
                  Mike

Didn't we see a Juncker PB awhile ago with the same smaller pin/hinge set up?
                        I'll look.
