    Hi Eric,

Difficult from the pics. It appears to be Juncker marked and the wreath appears Juncker-like. I'd want to see a close-up of the maker mark - gut feeling from what I can see suggests it is wrong but the images are too bad to be definite on this point. I do not like the early Juncker-like hinge combined with the catchplate. Also, I can only recall seeing flat-wire catches on zinc Juncker badges, not a roundwire catch like on this badge (but there are probably exceptions). Seems to have exceptionally good finish for a late-war (zinc) badge - maybe too good. I don't recall seeing a late-war (zinc) Juncker Glider with cut-out swastika either. Personally, I am very wary of this badge from the images provided.

      Gliders badge

      Hello,

I personally do not like the badges general appearance => altough it seems very wel constructed it is not a Juncker piece as the one known !!! => compare towards the one shown on this site.

There are striking differences , such as look at the eagles head ( the beak is in no means the same ) , the body of the eagle + feathers, etc .. are not the same, the claws are different , etc ...

Looking at the reverse there are also differences , the catch is different + the hinge , look at the reverse of the eagle => the point where the right wing is touching the eagles tail is very sharp , this is something original Juncker pieces do not have ( these are more rounded !!! ) .

One can always say, different die's, etc ... but IMHO regarding this argument for this particular ( glider pilots ) badge is a NONO , these where not in that much demand and are now a rare and scarce badge => so my advice, if you are not certain of originality stay away from it ( it wil save you alot of money + from ending up with a badge that is uncertain qua originality => indeed these badges are not the cheapest around !! ) , if looking at a Juncker marked piece for these badges i expect the same characteristics as on the piece presented on this asso ( see glider pilots badge !! ) .

Al this is offcoarse just my personal opinion

      Greetings,
my collectionfield : German glider pilots

          Hi,
          Strange badge.
Late war badge with early badge features.
          I don't like the beak.
The claws of the eagle should be more pronounced IMO.
The hinge should be the type of the late Airgunner etc. and not the barrel hinge.
          No cut-out swas.
          Makersmark early type ???
Too many questions for a lot of money !!
          I would say:No !

          Regards,
          Jos.

              Just As I Thought

              Hi Guys,
Well, you all unanimously confirmed my suspicions on this one. I found the beak not being bent like the usual Juncker
Gliders funny, as well as the poor definition of the talons on the eagle. But I new it was late war (being zinc) and I have never owned a late war Gliders before, so I wasn't 100% sure if the characteristics were (eagle especially) the same as the early ones
or whether or not there was a die change over time. Also, the swastika - thanks for pointing out the fact that the late war Junckers should be solid not segmented - I did not know that. I
appreciate all the honest input guys - Thanks!
              ERIC
