very nice- all good IMO. the 2 stickpins have non typical font engraving but I don't think that is any problem, all else absolutely textbook. not going to be cheap I take it??

Thanks for the comments so far. As to the 'font styles', yes, there are varying opinions on what type/s are correct. From this 'period' advertisemnt, from a contemporary article, notice that the font used on the full size is different from the style used on the pin. The full size appears to be similar to a contemporary Arial font, while the font on the stickpin more resembles a Times Roman. Not exactly, but you can see the difference.

Prices will be substantially cheaper than the big dealers with overhead. Package deals cheaper yet. I also have a grouping of 4+ Docs to the co-designer of the HE-178 turbo jet. Check these two threads:

          Aeronautical research awards

I must say that whilst I have never had the urge to buy one of these very rare awards they are extremely attractive and I very nearly made an offer for the one which Patrick sold recently when the price was reduced.

Steve Wolfe once told me that the detailing of the eagles on these aeronautical awards is the best to be found on any TR award.

              Hi Stan,

You are right about the detailing. See attached images. And FWIW, these awards came from George Petersen, who got them from Steve Wolfe!

              Thanks,
              Mark

                Hi Mark,

Thanks for posting these wonderfully rare pieces. These awards are by far one of the most underappreciated awards of the Luftwaffe. Not only are they exceptionally rare but their beauty is unsurpassed in terms of quality, IMO.

For those who do not know, Mark is one of the few collectors to actually have all 3 Academy badges. The Silver version is the rarest of the 3 with only a few known pieces.

Can you post pictures of the case?

                Thx.

                  Hi Mark,

I've never seen one of these in real life.....but they sure look nice.

I especially like the way the swasi and top of the wings are finished.

We´ve only ever had the bronze with mini in a big group from a Luftwaffe civilian engineer. I have handeled both the silver ang gold in Collections and at Helmut Weitzes though.
These appear to be fine originals in a near mint condition.
Very nice, I would personally be proud to own them.

                      All,

Thanks for the nice comments. I will hate to part with them, but life moves along.

Tim, I think the Bronze set has your name on it!

                        Mark,

Thanks for posting the case - an exceptional rarity. I believe both of the badges pictured are the 2nd pattern; the first pattern had the device firmly affixed to the stickpin (no links), so there was no swing movement.

                          ....

Wonderful examples -- and, of course, for me, the case really is the icing.

                            HI,

Affiliated Auctions (at the MAX) supposedny was aucitning off a set of 3 of these (B, S, G). Estimated price was $38K. They were numbered in the single digits. Does anyone know if these were real, what they went for?

                              I don't believe they sold.
