Sorry Ludwig - I should have posted the makers mark before your post but I got called away. It is certainly the 'deciding factor' regarding lack of originality. I am very grateful to all forum members for commenting on this thread and one member kindly PM'd me offering his badge for sale which I am now looking to accept.

Once I get the chance tomorrow morning to place some photos on the forum it will probably clinch the deal. Keep an eye out for my new thread tomorrow on the current offer !

Tony, like Alex, I think the Weitze badge has rivets that have been (at the least) tightened.

Here is what textbook Assmann Observer rivets should look like:

Hey Tom, there's certainly original Assmann Ob's with raised marks! This one that was posted at the start of this thread is certainly a pile, though.

How could this be an original badge, since the Assmann mark is raised on the eagle? Also notice that the rivets and hardware are not like Assmann or Meybauer (or any other original maker in my opinion). That type of Assmann mark is also never found on originals, its only found on fake badges IMO.

Tony, that last badge you show from Weitze looks like a fine original. I would ask for some better closeups of the rivets to make sure they aren't messed with, but everything else looks fine and textbook IMO.

Hi Tony,

Sorry, but that one is a fake IMO. It uses a fake Meybauer wreath and doesn't match anything on original Assmann badges.

Don't feel bad, I missed out on that 1st Observer too when I tried to get it. Seems that the seller has a habit of leaving the badges on his site long after they have sold
