That thing is in my opinion not original. I hardly think this piece is copper coated, it is a new, modern alloy with a high copper part.

Hi guys,

I fail to see the differences with all these Wallpach badges posted. Daniel, the one you show in that other thread looks OK to me too, what didn't you like about it? I see a tad slight weaker detail in the one in this thread versus other originals I have on file, but not enough to cast serious doubt on the piece. The reverse hardware looks acceptable, so I feel it is OK but would probably wait for one with stronger detail if I were looking to buy one of these.

I have to agree with Daniel concerning the badge that started this thread. I do not like the look of the base metal on this badge, which strikes me as a modern alloy of some sort. It looks like a mixture of both yellow metal and white metal components (and a poor mixture at that) which gives the reverse that inconsistent coloration. In my opinion, zinc just does not look like this. I have also noticed that real badges by this maker have very distinct tool marks to the pin at the shepherd crook bend. This badge does not seem to display those marks.

I believe this to be a cast fake that was poured from a mold made using an original as the model. Unfortunately these fakes can be very, very convincing because the originals were made by injection-molding. Consequently, the fakes will look almost exactly like the originals. And in some cases they will look better than originals. I have had numerous examples of these badges over the years and the real ones were always pretty ugly looking. They almost always seem to be made of Kriegsmetall and look dark and gray. Be real careful when you see one that looks shiny and bright. A friend of mine bought one of these because "it was in such nice condition" and it turned out to be fake. The downfall of these fakes is the base metal that they are made of so don't be fooled if you see one that looks nice and silvery. In my opinion, fakes of these Arno Wallpach Ground Assault Badges are out there in quantity so do be careful.
