    Interesting Clasp

    Hi,

I thought some people would like to see a very interesting clasp my son picked up at the MAX show last week.

1st for comparison is my gold bomber clasp. Following those pictures will be his Transport clasp. Take note of the reverse of the bomber clasp, especially the area where the bomb device is affixed.

Now here is where it gets intereting. 1st picture is a reverse shot. 2nd picture is a close up of the center portion of the clasp.

If you did not pick up on it....note that the clasp was originally a bomber clasp whose center section has been cut down to allow for the fitting of the transport eagle (so when viewed from the front the bomb will not show).

The transport clasp came in a gold bomber clasp case.

Funny, I heard about this clasp last week and was hoping to see it one day. So thank you for posting it. A lot of care went into its conversion to a transport clasp. Very interesting and very unique.

I've never seen anything like it. Way too far out to be a fake or fantasy piece. I like it a bunch. I like it a whole bunch.
          Thanks for posting.
Did I say I like that on A LOT?
Damn, I had to go fishing instead of the MAX

Well I had the happy chance to see it in hand when Gary showed it to me at the MAX and it is even nicer in person!. What a great piece of history.

Gary, Was the modification to the clasp done before the gold finish was applied? It looks like the finish is in tact on the sides of the platform to hold the transport eagle. Richard

                        Hi Richard,

Good observation. Yes, the gilt finish was applied after the cuts were done to the clasp.

                            I like it too!

                            Hi Gary and Matt,

A terrific clasp and a skillfully done conversion. Just looking at the front alone should cause people to do a double take with the two Hakenkreuze.

                            Best regards,
                            Tom
