    Some help with bomber clasp?

    Hi guys,
I've seen that bomber clasp on an auction site recently, and it doesn't look so bad, what do you think? It looks lie a gold one in a silver case to me .I would really appreciate any opinions.
    Thanks,
    Bart

I believe the title on the box should be in gold for all grades. The badge looks OK.

        Hi Bart,

I am not a fan of that case either. The badge MAY be OK, but we will need much closer pics of the obverse and reverse to be sure. The setup is questionable for sure, so if you can do a few closeups of the hinge from a few different angles, that will tell us more.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

I agree with Tom. Better pictures of the clasp are needed and the case is suspicious. I have a fake case for a Jager with the same font.

              case makes me not cheering
lettering is way of the textbook ones ive seen, and the clasp is not a gold one, no way
or you have to get another shot in better light to determin

the catch and pin have to be looked at from better shots

front of the clasp looks promising

I gotta say it's looking like a bronze grade to me also.

I don't like either- that type of hinge is only seen on zinc FLL clasps and this for sure isn't one

                          Hi Bart,

Thanks for the additional pics. There are many good aspects to this clasp but some questionable aspects too, especially the hinge. These are a very common type of clasp, and this is a first for me to see a thick block hinge laying on its side like this. FLL clasps have the block hinge sitting on its side, but this is definately not an FLL clasp. The hinge is also different than the FLL block hinges, so we are definately looking at a different maker.

Because of all the other good aspects of the clasp, I wouldn't call this one a reproduction, but I also wouldn't buy it because of the questionable hinge. If you are looking for a nice textbook example, look for another one. However, if you are a variant collector and have many examples in your collection and this one can be acquired cheaply enough, then this would be a good one to get in hand and study further.

                          Tom

The case for sure is fake. The clasp...my gut feeling is it's fake too. The finish and the aging just don't look right.

most of the times, these tombac examples have age ringes, like a tree on the backside of the wreath, i justcant make them out here

                              my feeling says no
and in this light it looks like a silver grade to me
