Unusual Luft Ground Assualt by M.u.K.5

    Hello folks,
I am posting my Luftwaffe Ground Assault. This badge has an eagle that is unique and is not typical of other eagles on standard M.u.K.5 badges (look at the beak).

BTW, this badge was obtained by my late great-uncle Frank and he sent it to my grandmother in late 1944 or early 1945. My uncle said the badge was obtained in Sicily. This badge was given to me in 1971 by my grandmother (she kept it for years in her sewing box).

Does anyone have another like it?

    Regards,
    Jody

BTW, here is a link to other things he brought back from the war. http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/FORU...+gold+relative

BTW, here is a letter my great uncle Frank wrote about the invasion of Sicily.

      Jody,

Haven't seen another like it but I really love the look of this one.

Does he mention the badge in the letter or just the invasion in general?

I´m quite sure I sold a badge like that to someone here at the WAF, some years ago.

            Hi William,
I posted the letter above and there is no mention of the badge, but the letter is pretty interesting. I have always wondered if this badge came off of a member of the HG Division. He did have an HG em cuff title years ago, but his idiot son traded it for some pot (no joke). I am lucky I got most of his German stuff and still have it, ie, Ground Assault, Pilots badge w/Case. DK in gold from Normandy, tank destruction badge in silver, a nice M-35 DD Heer (from Normandy), an Allgeimeine SS brassard, and an SS RZM em dagger w/vertical hanger.

            Regards,
            Jody

BTW, he picked this up in Sicily too (a J2 Juncker Pilot w/case):

              Hi Daniel,
I wonder if this is the early version of the badge by M.u.K.5 and they later went to the type with the bigger and rounded beak like the RK ground assaults.

              Regards,
              Jody

That might be the case. The 5 is a little more pronounced than most M.u.k.5's I've seen. Maybe from less wear on the die than later badges???
                Just an idea.
                Regards,
                Frank

I have seen several like this but always refrained from buying them due to the "non-textbook" eagles. The eagle is similar to the one used on the well known RK copys which is a little worrying. Interesting point on the 5 being more pronounced than usual. Thanks for showing.

Nice badge Jody...I passed on one at the SOS because I did not recognize this style eagle as shown on yours--but otherwise the details down to the crimp and die flaw at the back were exact...does anybody have any links showing what good copies of M.u.K.5 LW GAB's look like?

This type of eagle pop up many times nowadays on different variants like S&L, Osang. I thought earlier that maybe these are all replacements made by a company for the reason that many lgab lost their eagle, but the rivets on this shows that it was not messed with and its the original eagle to the badge.

As said before its not a "textbook" eagle but i believe its 100% original.
Its always interesting when you received things from those veterans who was there and you find out thats its not textbook.
                          Variations exist

                          Great LGAB Jody

This thread is somehow very quiet. I wish the usual "fake" chanters would express their opinions regarding this piece...
