If i got this right there are only two models of this badge that is considered to be original wartime badges and they are both tombak Juncker.

On Wehrmachts home-page it says:

"wards of this badge took place before the outbreak of war only and can be produced in both 800 Silver and aluminum. Lower quality wartime badges were produced as replacements or duplicates and were not official award pieces."

Is this true? and if so dose anyone have one aluminum to show?

As far as my knowledge goes, this is type 1.
As for originality of this piece I can't comment, there is no known original in silver, only tombac (possibly neusilber) and aluminum.

I was under the impression some later versions were produced in zinc (?)

Second post from the bottom by Pieter Verbruggen.

"The retired pilot badge by Juncker came in two styles:"

"-the first style is pictured in the Dr.Doele book, this type is virtual impossible to find.(see Mark's badge)"

"-the second style as shown here (by Tim)is a very rare badge but from time to time you will encounter them.
this second style also exists in aluminum of which I only know one cased example.
