    Screwback Juncker Pilot Badge?

Hi fellows..I am posting this for a friend, he bought it some years ago as part of a collection. The piece looks to never have had a hinge or a catch. The threads on the screwback are somewhat stripped as the screwback device falls off, but if I take off the larger round piece then the screwback device screws on tightly. I have seen a similar one in an article by Yuri on Pilot badges. The burnishing on the eagle has worn to about 40 percent exposing a patinated light brown/yellow base metal...

Any input will be appreciated, thank you very much,

    John

                    Hi John,

Whe out on a recent visit to see Stephan Wolfe, one of my objectives was to examine and study the screwback Juncker LW pieces. What I viewed was 1st pattern Pilot, Observer and Radio Gunner . All were factory made , meaning not modified after factory production.

The disc was oval and sat neatly into the oval wreath. The wreath was not the standard wreath on the reverse as it was concave to accomodate the back. The screw was about 1/4" with threds. All very well made and neatly done

I hope this helps give you a feel for what i am trying to describe and cannot say that the later piece were made differently like the one you posted.

                    Best,
                    JD

Well I hate to disagree with Jos, and maybe my eyes are wonky or something, but I am seeing a J3 eagle here.
Otherwise a very intereting badge, clearly there was never a hinge, catch on it.

                        Hi John,

Very nice and original srewback J2 IMO with lots of character.

Where do you keep finding these nice badges and how is it possible that your badges always seem to have a little more of that "I was there look" then most other badges we see. I bet you wear them yourself every day

I had this badge in my possesion about 3 months ago and I was 100% unhappy with it. It went back to the dealer after I took some pics. He was good about giving a refund. IMO, a copy of a J2. Check out this shot!! Notice the deatils of the eagle's face....and what is that on the left wing?? Also seemed smaller than my other J2's.

P.S. Think about how much easier a repro badge maker's job is if he can simply put a screwback on it. No need to get that pin / hinge and clasp correct!!!
