Impossible to tell for me if the miniature is real or not, but Greg´s observation is very good and I absolutely share it. The original looking case was for something else. Not only is the formed shape unsuitable for an oval Luftwaffe badge, but also a recess or cutout for the hinge/pin/catch is missing, something that would definitely be present if it was for such a type of badge.

I was at a show not too long ago and a dealer well known for selling fake stuff had a bunch of fake miniature LW badges...as I recall he had pilot badges...he may have also had observer badges but memory does not serve me correctly.

Naturally, seeing the source of the pieces I assumed them to be fake. I have never seen anything like them before and all of a sudden they popped up on this guys table. I always make it a point when I do hit shows to look at everybody's stuff so that I can keep abreast of the new fake items.

I actually found the pieces quite amusing.

I do not know if the badges pictured are original versions or fakes so I can not comment on them...but I do know that these miniatures are popping up. The case reminds me of one you see wound badges in...is it the same size...also the detailing on the first badge is not too crisp.

I have´nt seen any of those turning up here, you Frank?
        anybody else in Europe?
Could it be that these are new items coming from the US?

For what its worth I´ve seen plenty of the normal stickpin miniatures and they did´nt show much detail either.
As for the box, definatly for a different item, but could be period.

For what its worth, here is my normal stickpin of a miniature PO - not too much detail - bought several years ago (from Europe).

I bought my four pieces about 12 years ago. So they are around since years. There's alos a German reference book about miniatures which mentions this size. I know, however, that the author was under fire (Messing).

Mini pilot badges are nothing new, the germans made prinzen sized pilot badges in the W.W.1 era, why not W.W.2.

Back on the box, it looks like a small version of this one of mine, also seen with the EK 1 in them.

I could be wrong but I think that badge hanna is wearing is the female version of the combined pilot observer with brilliants.

And to add further to USGI's comment, I think it was specialy made just for her as a one off.
