1./KG53 Walter Weigle Pokal & more

Recently directly Family aquired from the son from Pilot Walter Weigle.
One really impressive Bomber Pilot with a carrer starting around 1938 till 1945 and as a war surviver. He was shot 3 times down, 3 times survived with the whole crew. No GC or KC winner but receipient of the LW Pokal (goblet). All emergency landings happened always close at the British channel with flights from an to Coventry. On his birthday 8.May he was in the air over Poland and shot a plane. He got flights over France, Russia and Poland. He received the capitualtion message 45 in the air and was flying west as long he could and was then landing in Danmark. POW, and was resigned for mine work from the POW. His flight training started by Straehle in Schorndorf and went futher to Boeblingen till he was drawn in for the LW.

The goggles are actually american but came out from his estate.

one link with one of his HE111 losses:

          Hi Robert,

Thanks for sharing! IMO that's what it's all about! Congrats!
Nice early war stories to go with it! Any pictures of him?

Being shot down 3 times and the whole crew survived?
That's a tribute to good piloting skills, especially if they were crash landings!

The son is on vacation he will look for photos when he comes back.

Overall I have to say it is darn rare to get items directly out from the family. Mostly you get it from any us veteran familys or maybe over a picker, dealer or collector.

              Hi Robert,

Just found your thread Really nice grouping!!!

I checked the KG53 book by Heinz Kiehl, but they don't mention him in the book.

Did you already get pictures from his son? Are there also documents, flugbuch, medals?

              Best Regards, Thomas

On the Verleihungsliste you also have "Franz-Josef Maubach" he was Staffelkapitaene for KG53, 4. Staffel. He is listed as Hauptmann starting at 29-1-1943 till ?, Sept 1943 someone else took over.

He is also listed as Oberleutnant and Staffelkapitaene for KG53, 13. Staffel. Starting at 29-1-1943 till ? On 15-7-1943 someone else took over.

Schoeppler is also KG53, no further in on him.

Can you maybe post a picture of the whole list.

                Regards, Thomas
