    Civil Pilot Badge

I solicit your thoughts on this civil pilots badge. For me, it is not what I would expect but I have little experience with these. MM looks funny to me to say the least. Anyway, the badge is curved and the thickness of the metal decreases as you go from the center towards the edges, non-magnetic throughout, and the front appears to be enamel and not paint. 172mm in width, 13.3 gm.

MM & 800 Stamp. There are Juncker marked pilots badges marked 800 that some believe in. Thoughts?

Non-standard maker mark (serif "J" among other details) and poor quality hinge-pin set up. Not what I would want to see in an original piece.

I would not argue with that assessment.

All the examples I have owned are tomback based, and they have the more standard maker mark but who knows.

The one I have has the correct logo and a typical Juncker clasp. I would pass on that one.

The blue enamel obverse should be much 'richer' and deeper looking.

And the 'J' as has been mentioed by Scott. 800 Silber ...... I think not. another 800 controversy. Oh no!

                  Regards,
                  Mark

Thanks guys, I agree it is not what one would expect for all of the reasons stated above. It didn't cost anything so I guess it can stay as a placeholder. What else can I do with it?

                      Hi Richard,

De-Naz the badge by removing the swaz (normal post war procedure in Germany, right) and then the questionable makermark will disappear too. Put it up for sale on Man***s. $2500, including a fake case.

You could always solder some '57 swords to the bottom of it? Create your own 3R Abzeichen. I dunno?

You can wear it next time you ride Lufthansa. Tell them it's your First Class frequent flyer award and you want free drinks (and plenty of 'em) every 20 minutes.

                          lol @ Mark and Leroy...

A really tough badge to find though as an original...you see a ton of copies of varying quality around....I think an under-appreciated badge.

I really don't like having questionable stuff around unless I have some conviction to it. I do not have that with this. Maybe swapping it on a flight for a bottle is the way to go. Can't sell it feeling the way I do and don't think it desrves the hammer treatment. I will find the poor puppy a home. There have to be people who collect these things for what they are. Talk about amassing a huge collection cheap. I have had the opportunity to acquire several of these that were textbook but just seemed too much money at the time. There will be another one day. I will be back in 2 weeks and have a show and tell.
