Way out of my depth here, but weren't these never issued? It looks as if a flight clasp has been defaced and had the close combat grenade and bayonet stuck on it. There are holes in the side where the pendants for flight clasps would go and the finishing on the eagle's wings looks very crudely done.

Like i said way out of my depth here. Others will definitely confirm

Hi guys,

This is clearly a poor, cast production. The fakers may have used an original flight clasp to cast the base from, but even the casting is not very sharp or convincing. The eagle, and material the clasp is made from looks very much like the F&BL fake CCCs that are out there. In addition, that type of catch was never used on ANY wartime original badges. Even the pin and hinge are poorly produced. Just a crappy badge, definately not produced in the TR era.

As far as this award goes, it was definately instituted and award documents were issued. It is still debated whether any of the actual awards were ever produced. Possibly some prototypes were made, but in ALL instances I know of, even dated to May of 1945, LW guys were simply awarded the Army version of the CCC. Even guys that got a LW award document still received the Army version of the CCC. In my opinion, all the LW CCCs out there are post war produced pieces, i.e. no originals exist.

Don't forget, too, that in the original design, the eagle was holding the swastika. In the version shown, the swastika is at the bottom of the wreath (as on normal flight clasps).
