    Juncker Para Badge

Hello, I have just been offered this Juncker Para badge, the wreath is made from tombak and the eagle I would say is bronze? The pin assembly is non magnetic. Thanks for help, RKH

Nope, should be tombak as well. Seems to be polished or something like that.
Are you able to provide a clear picture of the Juncker hallmark?

        1) The obverse eagle shows artificial darkening (aging). Looks chemical.

        2) The swaz is poorly detailed. Never saw one exactly like that?

        3) The catch looks wrong. Or odd.

        4) The makermark is fairly good. I need to study is more. A perfect straight-on of the makermark would be nice.

        5) The highlights on the lower right obverse wreath are reflecting a strange color. Was that with a flash?

        Regards,
        Mark

          Hi RKH,

Like the LW Flak badge, the quality of the badge is not bad at all, but a few things don't add up. The catch is the first thing I noticed, not typical Juncker. Also, the maker mark looks like the right font, but the edges of the strike look very soft, like you would see if it was a casting of an original maker mark.

Coupled with what Mark said, who has much more experience these than I do, I would venture to say this is a very good casting of an original.

Can you give us some dimensions and a weight? Also, some more shots of the hinge, with pin open and from the side.

          Thanks

          Tom
If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

IF this is a copy, it's very good. Yes, the catch is not typical, a very good attempt at copying an original. I'll be posting some photos of an original I used to own in a few minutes to help. The detailing of the feathers in the central part of the eagle's wing is not as an original - lacks detail You will see in the photos...

I second Mark´s doubts here! All is too smooth, too shiny, at least too different from the norm....
We already saw a close to perfect faked Juncker hall mark on another badge.
This one is very close to the one we would like to see on originals, but there´s something wrong (IMHO)

The measurements (lenght, high, weight) would be very helpful for further investigations!!

Hello, can't get any pictures at the moment. Got some measurements: width: 42mm approx and height 53mm approx. I have noticed something in the picture that you have posted up Robert, the eagle has 3 talons clutching the swaz, when the one I have posted up only has 2 and they are not as well defined either! I can't open the pin assembly up as the clasp has been flattened and im not going to try and open it up. Im starting to get a bad feeling about this one also! No weight as I have no scales, sorry! Thanks, RKH

Maybe someone else can help with measurements. I no longer own this piece or I would help. But, you are beginning to see the differences yourself through the photos. Look at the lack of detail in the eagle's wing feathers. It's, IMO, another cast copy. It's close, but photos tell the truth. I would not want this piece in my collection, no.

53mm x 42mm is close Robert, but we really need the 100% correct measurements of this good copy (and a weight!!) for a better compare with an original. All other differences are clearly visible and a give away.

                            Exactly. I agree.

The first one posted has a strange look to it and as Tom said, that doesn't look like a Juncker catch.

                              Robert, yours looks super!
