          Hi Robert,

Generally I like what I see. Mark looks good, typical GWL cast features, hollow rivets, etc. The only think I can find that looks odd to me is the finish on the reverse of the eagle. Rather than ordinary zinc bubbles, these looks more like sand or something mixed with the finish to give it that look. Pictures can make finishes look vastly different, so I am not sure that it doesn't looks good. I also don't like the looks of that bag, were the edges on original bags cut like that??

          Tom
If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

I'm really not sure about the bag, Tom. I was really interested in the badge itself to start with. The bubbles in the finish of the eagle do look a little odd to me as well. There ahve been some very good micro castings of these lately...? Any other opinions, please?

The "sand" is very typical for GWL zink badges..

I had one like this showing the sand, also the erdkampf and the parabadge have the sand..., didn't see it on any zink GWL Flak though, these are very smooth..., why ? I've no clue..

                Jos,

This badge is on Karsten Staegemeir's site. Is it original?

                  Hi Robert,

As to the badge, up till your last post I liked it (if you catch my drift!!!). IF real, that is the best condition GWL ROAG I've ever seen.

Again, call me paranoid, but that incredible finish looks too good.

                  Merry Christmas!

My thoughts too. Isn't this guy the "King of Fakes" ?

                      Hi guys,

He IS the king of fakes, but he does sell original items too! His fakes are very good castings from originals and sometimes you can see the original he used for the fakes as well as the batch of fakes all for sale at the same time. But he definately sells originals too.

                        Hi Jos,

GWL CCCs also have a very smooth finish, not "sandy" like these. The use of zinc with this badge is no doubt late war, the same time period as the CCCs, so they must have been using 2 different types of finishes at the same time.

                          One more thing,

Its is very hard to tell the Hero's fakes from these types of pictures alone. We would have to see oblique shots of the hinge and catch to be certain whether its a rare original or a recent Hero creation. Robert, did he post any of these types of pictures in the update? You can try to ask him for some additional pics, but I doubt you will receive any. I asked for a few on several badges about 6 months ago, never got a reply.

                            Merry Christmas too Mark,

This has been a rather confused issue to me for some time.... what would you say if I told you I've seen two badges in the same mint condition, with exactly the same bubble finish features to the reverse?

If they start coming, then it's obvious.., it's always a matter of time to see them everywhere..
They don't bake only 2 of these, but a bucket or 2..., patience will save..
Nice object to study, but we need more info.

                              Jos.
