Well folks, please look at this ebay entry.

Actually the wound badge looks like one of the cut-out versions of the World War One wound badge that were sold after the end of WW I. The Spanish Civil War versions had a swastika on a World War I helmet. Also, I agree with Don; the helmet looks a bit big. Isn't it a bit odd to wear the Panzer Badge below the Wound Badge? I agree that it looks like a Heer Panzer Badge. If someone was monkeying with the photo they didn't seem to have been very familiar with the usual wearing of these awards....

Photo looks fine to me...you can't see the swas - so what? It is a bad blowup of a 72dpi photo. Maybe it was a joke, maybe he was attached to a unit and something odd happened. The wear lines on the bluse look real...

I have no doubt that the image on the photo is real. It is common knowldge that luftwaffe ground units received army badges. As for the precidence of wear, you can find numoerous mistakes in period photos.

When the Panzer and Panzergrenadier Regiments of the LW HG Panzer Division were formed in 1942, they were filled with Heer Panzer officers, NCOs, and soldiers with combat experience who had already earned the Panzerkampfabzeichen. So the wear of the tank badge in the photo is not unusual. Although I know there is a variety of ways badges were worn, it is a little unusual to wear a wound badge above a combat badge. However, I agree that the photo looks original. And very romantic, too. : -)
