Luft Flak - Juncker's - What do you think?

    Hi Everybody,

I've just been offered this Juncker's Luft. Flak badge.

I'm 99.9% certain it is right but since I have not owned a Juncker's example before, I would appreciate it if someone would be kind enough to give me the final word on this piece.

I think it is made of tombak. To my mind, the eagle has great features, especially the mean expression and also the talons.

Anyway, I hope to hear good news but in this game who knows

    Thanks for looking.

    All the best,
    Toby.

      And the maker's mark:

By the way, what is the significance of the varying Juncker's marks, i.e. CE Juncker Berlin SW / CE Juncker Berlin SW 68?

        Hi Toby,

Are you sure it is tombak, as I do not think the SW68 number should be on a Tombak made badge, Zinc yes.

There are others who know alot more than me regarding this & have Flak examples, just my initial response as none of my Tombak Juncker badges have the number.

        Regards,

        Neil

          Hi Neil,

Thanks for taking a look. I'm pretty certain it is tombak, since glints of a bronze colored metal can be seen showing through on the gun barrel. Also, there is a scratch by the hinge, and again, bronze colored metal can be seen.

The detail to the eagle seems good, and the hinge and catch are right for Juncker (aren't they?) but what to make of the mark?

It is from a good source not that that's any guarantee.

          All the best,
          Toby.

            Hi Toby,

As I told you I ones discussed this type with Frank H because I was thinking of buying one myself. He adviced against it and I followed that advice alltough he clearly stated that he wasn't 100 % sure that it was no good.

Those badges realy have a lot going for them, but tonight I will post an example with this mm that that realy has some strange features or better is strange because it lacks some features.

Typical for these badges is also that they have the round S in SW instead of the "2" shaped S

              Weights and measures:

Height (from bottom of the wreath to between the eagles wings): 72.5mm

              Width: 44mm

              Weight: 40.1g

              Thanks,
              Toby.

                Hi Toby,

Could you provide the dimensions of just the wreath? The positioning of the eagle can vary considerably, effecting any overall height measurement.

                Thanks

Hmmm... The badge seems to lack sheer marks from hand finishing...? Is that so? My Juncker Flak has very distinctive sheer marks, but I suppose that there might have been exceptions...

Thanks to all those who've commented so far.

I've now remeasured the wreath (base to top (dip behind eagle) and it works out at: 57mm.

As for shear marks, the badge would seem to have plenty. They are especially prevalent to the top of the eagle's wings.

If it helps I can post some more pics but it won't be for a couple of hours.

                      All the best,
                      Toby.

I have seen a tombak Juncker Army Flak badge with that "68" mark on it. It is true that the "68" mark is a later mark and appears predominantly on their zinc badges. Juncker obviously changed their mark sometime around the same time they switched to zinc badges.

However, is there any reason to assume that the switch to zinc and the switch to the "68" mark occurred simultaneously? Also, isn't it possible that they were using both marks at the same time? Perhaps they switched to the new "68" mark slightly before they switched to making zinc badges. Also, I think I have zinc Juncker badges with the old mark on it.

I am thinking that perhaps there was a window of time where both marks were being used on both tombak and zinc badges, and this would be around the time they switched to zinc.

here are some pics of the Juncker flak in my collection. This one is tombak and one that I consider to be 100% original.

                              Hi Guy's

Just deleted this one because not realy relevant in this thread.
All the badges I had questions about were marked SW and not SW 68
