    Deumer P/O Badge

    Hello Gentleman,

I came across this piece and would like to hear your thoughts. The concerns I have are the rivets, cut out between the legs and the length of the maker mark not being of equal length. However , I sent pics of the piece to two of the best know and respected dealers . One agreed with my observations and would say a pass would be logical, the second on the other hand liked the piece . Now, that is a dilemma. ( Hint both are sponsers of this site) Please share your thoughts.

    Best Regards,
    JD

      HI Joe

Still learning about these, but from what I have seen & been informed by a very experienced member of this forum about Deumers, I would not buy it for my collection.

      Regards,

      Neil

Aside from the other points mentioned , the higher magnification indicates cast marks, little bubble spots on the wreath as well as the feathers .

            Cordially yours ,

                Hello, Joseph.
I also believe this piece to be a cast piece with a false Deumer stamping IMO. The discoloration and bubbling on the surface of the eagle's chest feathers really look bad. The wreath also lacks the true sharp detail of an authentic Deumer. IMO the piece was cast from either a J2 or a Deumer ( who used original Juncker components ). Typical trademark of a Deumer is a flattened pin at the top near the hinge and the 'milled' area under and above the hinge. Beautiful badge but, IMO a fake. Posted is a good Deumer maker stamp to compare.

                Best regards.
                Robert

                  Hi Joe,

One of the nicest things about Deumer Pilots and P/O's is the
way Wilhelm finished off the wingtip cut-outs. He really put in the extra effort (unlike many Junckers, which can be very roughly
                  finished).
                  Deumer's wingtips have a very symmetrical, webbed-foot
appearance when viewed from the reverse. I've found this to be
the case whether Juncker parts or Deumer parts were employed.
This entire badge seems very sloppy.

The cut out between the legs should be much sharper also.
The eagle doesn't quite match up to either a Deumer or J2.
Everything already mentioned...rivets, pin, spot behind the hinge, hallmark, etc...I agree with.

Drop me a line at home if you want some shots for comparison.
                  Here's a front shot....

                    Hi Joe,
I do agree here with you - it is cast, but very good. The rivits and maker mark are wrong also. As Robert, I like to see the milled area under the hinge as well as the flattened pin. Definately not for your fine collection.
