    Pilot Observer GWL

    Gentlemen,

I have had this badge for couple of years now and it originally came from Wolfe-Hardin.
I would like to know what do you think would be a "fair" retail price for one of these ?
I surfed all over the web and could not find such a badge for a comparative study.
The condition is superb and would be extremelly difficult to upgrade.
I would grade this badge as a Mint -.
The case is a reproduction but great for display purposes.
    Here are the pics now.

    Thank you all !

    Pat

              Patrice,
As I believe we both purchased our badges at about the sime time, you already know that they aren't cheap. I didn't see a GWL at this years SOS. but there was a Juncker in nice condition. It was priced at 5K so you can maybe use that to price yours accordingly.

Hi Larry and thank you for your feedback.
If I remember correctly, your's is even in a better condition than mine and is perhaps the nicest one in the world and would probably rate as being "stone cold mint".
Don't you ever sell that baby !

Hello, I saw a couple GWL P/O badges at the SOS. One at Wolfe & Hardin's table and Brian Maederer's table. They were going $5K plus.

Nice badge! Jason B also had a GWL PO as well.

What a fantastic piece The GWLs were certainly produced with an absolutely stunning finish. Although minty badges can still be found by other PO manufactures, GWLs by far and away still look as they surely must have done some 60 years ago when they left the depot! Great pieces and becomming more and more desirable for this very reason. As some of the other guys have suggested premier dealers in the States will sell these badges for around USD 5,000. Indeed, I know of one currently sitting on one particular site, which incidently is by no means mint, that is on sale for USD 6,500. As always the market is what somebody is prepared to pay for a piece at the time.

                      Best regards,

Thank you Tim for the good words.
This is the only badge that I have from GWL and they are trully "unique".
A friend of mine as a GWL Pilot badge and it is just as nice, with complete frosting on top, it is just spectacular.

                        Cheers,

                        Pat

My dream would be to own the four GWL flight badges: Observer, Pilot, Pilot/Observer and Paratrooper. What a set would that be! I must confess that the Pilot/Observer will be a very difficult badge to acquire. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>

                            I must've been in a coma for 30 years, no ?

Honestly guys, try to keep both feet on the ground..., what's the rule lately ?
Adding $ 500.- once a week or once a month...?
Those who want one of these for such prices must be very desperate persons..., think some of us have lost reality by thinking they're in the diamond business or what ?
I still don't get why people are willing to pay the prices set by a couple of major fruitcakes apparantly Gods for some and then start to compare what they have and pass on the message that we've reached higher grounds and so a certain badge has to go for a similar price among collectors etc..
It's digging your own grave and someone is laughing real hard..!
( but I've noticed more and more people don't care and prices must go up to finance their own collection not noticing that they also have to pay more and more..,they think it's a win-win situation, but in fact we all loose ,sadly enough !!)

Please lighten up and ignore the Ferrari brothers and other millionairs for a change..,next year they've one for 11K, mark my words...,even a simple black wound badge will cost you a fortune at those " dealers "..

It's just a nice GWL which went for something in the neighborhood of 2K not that long ago and then we all got poluted by something strange and now some top dealers and the about 400 dealers in this forum have made it a habit to add what they want...........
In about 60 years the badge went to a amount of 2K and in the next just couple of years someone has to add another 3K...........
Please, tell me the name of this new game.

Let's try to keep collecting a hobby and not some kind of fetish thing..,
if someone paid a huge price for something it doesn't mean that that price is the market value and any advice concerning that huge price should not be taken as granted...and I'm afraid this happens to often here by people saying something like " go ahead, I've paid X for that and I'm happy...".
Good..,but don't use it as a tool to talk people into certain items for ridiculous amounts of money..
I've stuff too,but I don't use it to ruin the market ....,because I like collecting...and with that I've said it all.

                            Jos.
