    Luftwaffe cloth pilot badge

    Hi guys,

got this three pics from a friend of mine today. He asked me to put them into the forum to catch some opinions if it is genuine or a repro.

I have my opinion already but would be glad to hear some others.

    Thanx a lot!
    Steve

        pilot badge

        To me its OK...
Good thread, paper backing, good pattern good felt.
Anyway, none here was able so far to tell me why the other was a fake. This one looks good to me.
Please think about the many manufacturer and many styles, and especially 10 years periodes of making.
If you dont agree just give details.

          Heinrich,

This is a known fake, they're all made the same way,all are identical and they're easy to find.
It has nothing to do with the paper which looks good etc, it's just made the wrong way compared to original bullion badges.
This is not the first time we see this fake or one similar to this one.

And as a note,if you're are trying to find flightjackets ,please use the "wanted" forum and not a thread dealing with badges and don't blame other members if you can't find these items for cheap.

          Jos.

            Steve,

In one of your threads concerning a leather pilot jacket I have posted pictures of an original bullion pilot badge. http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...=196722&page=2
I hope it will help you.

              Pilot badge

Thanks for that, but sorry guys, Piere is posting an NCO badge and Steve an officer badge. No comparison possible for an amateur like me.
Besides, Piere no offence, but if I compare details, especially the head, eyes...etc.yours looks worth. I would nevery buy. But for sure I am an amateur.
Again, thanks for the hints about the french fleemarkets. Will fly there immediatly pay 1200,--US$ for the ticket, 1000,--US$ for the expenses and for sure find one for 150,--Euro.
              But again no offence.

                For heinrich,
Here's another one, identical twin, and more can be found on dealer sites now and then...
It's a modern made badge and it looks like that.
Think I've more of these on file...

Here's what a good bullion badge looks like..
As you can see the material is different and more "alive"...

                        pilot badge

                        thanks guys,
But still, there were 10 years approx of Luftwaffe, approx 150 makers and thus styles.
I am still convinced that this otherone is a good one.

In that case it'll be easy for you..., just pick one and it's a good one...that's the easy way to build a "fantastic" collection.

                          Good luck,

                          Jos.

This one genuine? If I had found it anywhere, I would have been 200 % sure that it is a repro ...

The first impression and feeling can mislead, I guess. But I really are no expert concerning these cloth badges.

The great thing is that everyday on WAF you can learn some new things. For years I thought I had a bullion pilot badge for officer and finally thanks to a member I discover that in fact it was a badge for NCO http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...=196722&page=2
. I didn't know that there were pilot badges just for NCOs. I thought that there were two versions for the cloth pilot badge: one for the enlisted men and NCOs and one embroidered version for officers. Thank you for the information. As for this badge I didn't have to pay for it (sorry ) as it was given to me by a former Luftwaffe pilot in Germany an other magic place in Europe...

1200$ to fly from the States to Europe . Time to find a new travel agency.

                              Pierre.
