Dear all,
New to the forum, writing from Bucharest, Romania. A good place shopping for WWII German memorabilia since it has been an occupied country, however, lately we are faced with an increased number of fakes. (Am I mistaking, or on the last photo above to the right there is a German officer decorating some Romanian soldiers/officers?).
I have just acquired an Air Gunner Badge, but to my humble opinion it may be a fake due to the following reasons:
Near mint condition;
The rear claw/talon is grouped together with the other claws as if bolts were cut out;
BSW mark not convincing since the "clover leaf" like sign is missing its tiny tail;
Eagle looks like a pigeon - esp. front + peak, it does not have the aggressive look and the neck is short;
I am not able to describe the material the wreath and the eagle are made of. I am not allowed to post pictures on the site, I will create a link to those soon. In the meantime, could you please tell me in few words, what are the striking elements that would raise suspicions towards the badge's authenticity?
My only elements of comparison are pictures of originals from the net and the detailed information on this site/forum.
Thanks so much for your prompt feedback.
Alex
