    Help with finding my first Flugzeugführer (Pilot's) badge

    Hi there,

    I'm an Army man but have really fallen in love with the Flugzeugf******252;hrer badge, I have no idea though where to start but know I have about $450 to play with. Here's what I am considering.what are your opinions? ...if anyone wants to offer me one for less by all means do so! I am even entertaining a denaz one if the quality is good.

            patience, networking and study...

            Hi
            <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>
            I guess it comes down to personal preference but in descending order I would prefer buntmetal to zinc, but zinc to denazified. Once you have handled the buntmetal version you will be sold. Having said that obviously finances come into play and for $450 you do limit your options. However I have seen buntmetal pilots sell for 450 Euro, these have had some small war time repair to a catch – to me this is appealing having shown some period use – to others it is a detractor. For a good buntmetal pilot with no repairs you are more than likely looking at 650-750 Euro, but genuine bargains can still be found for less if you have a less impulsive nature and more patience.
            <o></o>
            Cheers

              I agree with Colin.

              Buntmetall badges make You happier and that also for a longer period of time - no slowly devastating surfaces like the war metallers ...

              Stay away from the denaz stuff, the pieces may be cheap but make no sense to collect IMHO as they do not reflect their time of making with this post-war alteration. Exception: You have a post-war collection with 1957 versions plus denaz badges.

                I have one up on the e-stand here: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=177899
                This was my first pilot badge that I decided to buy with all the help I received from the people here. The zinker filled the place in my collection just fine!

                  Nice on vonS, I'll definitely consider it...esp for the price. Can I ask one thing tho what is the diff between "zinc alloy" and Zinc? As Colin has mentioned, I'm slightly wary of the wear that "pure zinc's" have over time, does the "zinc allow" wear less?

                  *edit* just doing a google, it appears Tombac is a zinc alloy with copper... was that the only Zinc Alloy made?
