LW Ground Combat Badge for review

    Hello and Happy New Years:

I believe this to be a LW Ground Combat Badge produced by C.E. Juncker (one of two setup variations). This badge has the familiar long barrel hinge, and the catch affixed to a round catchplate (as opposed to the oblong one).

I would appreciate your comments and opinions on the badge when it is convenient for you. Some of us will be sleeping in tomorrow no doubt. after the evenings festivities.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

    Dennis

        Dear Dennis,

Nice badge. Actually there are at least two very likely candidates for this type badge: Juncker and Steinhauer & L******252;ck.
        Cheers, Frank

Thanks Frank and Happy New Year!

That thought crossed my mind after having read the threads regarding S&L vs Juncker this year. I had edited all of my photo files for PABs, GABs, etc. to indicate the change.

The other setup for this badge, with the long hinge and oblong catchplate, certainly speaks Steinhauer & Luck at this point. I do have a photo file of a Juncker maker marked example, but its reverse cutouts differ from the unmarked example, as well as from the badge I started the thread with.

                Hi,

I agree that both have used hinge-catch system, but I think yours is from S&L , wreath is a bit different.

In the marked example you showed, is clearly visible the early - middle hinge-catch used from Juncker.

Can you show the obverser side of this eample?

very nice pin of the last badge !

                thanks

                  Ivan:

Thanks for the additonal information on this badge. I appreciate your response.

Here is the obverse side of the maker marked badge. This badge is part of the Larry Lipps collection, and may be viewed along with other LW Ground Combat Badges on Mike Pinkus' website devoted to these badges. (My apologies for not listing the photo credit when I initially initially posted.)

Happy New Years Ivan! May '06 bring you prosperity and interesting new finds for your collection.

                      Junker / S&L?

                      Hi Frank,

Whats the current thoughts on the manufacturer of this one. Shown on Mikes site http://groundassaultbadges.homestead.com/Gallery.html as a Junker.

First post this year so best wishes for the New Year to all

                          Dear Rob,

Comparing it to the marked Juncker example one can see that this is not a Juncker badge, at least it is different and resembles the badge in post #7.

                          There are several possibilities:

                          1) This is the S&L (which would make Dennis' badge something else)
                          2) It is by the maker who made the PABs we called "Juncker"
                          3) It is by Zimmermann (FZS)

I have not looked into the LW GAB deeply yet, but these are my assumptions. I would also like to mention Souval, who is not a likely maker for a LW award but who used this catch construction too on occasions (e.g. Destroyer).
                          Cheers, Frank

                              Frank:

Happy New Years. May 2006 bring you happiness and further answers to your ever inquisitve mind regarding the subtle aspects of our collecting hobby.

Thank you for the further information regarding these LW Ground Combat Badges. Because I have a few more variations of these badges (makers unknown to me), I will try and do some comparisons based upon the information you supplied and see what I can come up with before posting them.
