Assmann Glider Pilot?

Hey all,

I was searching through some old threads trying to find a reference to an Assmann made Glider Badge, but without success. I was specifically looking for a stinker (I mean zinc'r). If these do exist, I'd love to see some photos! The reason I ask is I had a chance to examine one a while back and it had those late war flat riviets seen on other late war Assmann's. Also, the eagle looked like it had little to no angle/tilt compared to the wreath.

Yu will be able to find some Assmann badges (these are sometimes offered at dealers websites) but iff they are original that is another point.

Iff i might give you a good advice => do not hunt Assmanns (except the 1957 form) but try to find either one of the following badges :

* C.E.Juncker
* BSW

Just wondering, have you only encountered marker marks of Juncker and BSW?

Another question, how many makers would you estimate there were based on the variations of the badges you have handled (unmarked).

I have encountered only what i call "original" badges with maker marks of both the C.E.Juncker and BSW company. The very same badges can also be found without maker mark and in a couple of variations.

I have seen otehr badegs with maker marks from; Assmann, A.G.M.u.K., Deumer, etc .. etc ... but all of these had either big questions raised (maker marks not correct, etc ... etc ... ) and i have never ever encountered any of these still with a pedigree that stands the time.

Howmany producers where active in making these badges?, i simply do not know and at this point of time only the makers (BSW & Juncker) are 100 % sure for this moment. It is certain at this point that the awarded badges do all fall in the category of the 2 producers.

We can not exclude the possibility at this point that other producers could have been active in making these for private retail. But there is no proof at all for this and we can easely place the following question towards this.

- Was it beneficial for a producer to make dies, etc ... and tooling for such a small market ???

Iff anyone should however have old sale catalogues from german wartime producers etc ... i would love to see it.

One last point to note is the badge I looked at did not have any maker marks. I was thinking Assmann because the rivets look like their rivets on late war pieces.

The large eagle variation is also interesting.

Thanks for your reply. I'm still not clear on one point... are you saying that all the unmarked examples you consider good were either unmarked BSW or Juncker badges?

- Large eagle variant : most probably Juncker, all clear evidence is lacking on this so far (such as maker marked type). My observation on the large eagle variant as being a Juncker is based on the material as in wich the badge is made + the pin construction. I have also seen this very badge in a exact case (and yes this combo did belong togheter) as used with the known C.E.Juncker design.
