BSW Pilot help

A buddy sent me this one and I'm afraid it is a nice done repro. Early tombak style BSW with the full maker mark. The eagle doesn't match up very well to one of Lorenzo's.

The catch is the "J" style straight to the wreath.

Mark, one big concern is there is no 'A.G.' in front of WIEN, was there 2 styles?? I thought there was only one.

I did a Forum Search for BSW Pilot. I am posting a set of BSW images that Skip posted. Not sure if it is his or Lorenzos or someone elses badge, but it sure is textbook.

Maybe it's your image, but I'm not sure that I see the umlaut above the 'U'.

The hinge on yours looks a bit too short. Let me post these so we can compare.

Thanks, Mark, this must be Skip's badge and it is textbook. The one I have here does not have the umlaut over the U.

Despite the bad scans the mark is sharp and not from a cast but it seems, like other attempts, they didn't get it right.

The rivets are domed and not flattened on top like Skip's or Lorenzo's.

Something to consider. Here's a badge I had in my hands for a few days and didn't feel comfortable with it.

It appears to have the same hallmark.
Check the following photos, you'll see that there was much more on this badge that didn't measure up to a textbook BSW.

As you can see, this badge had a "C" clasp. Not your normal BSW!

Also felt too heavy for me. Made of a strange metal,
as though lead was mixed with zinc.

Here's the front:

I hate to say a badge is fake, but I will say this one was sent back.
It's possible that this badge is an earlier attemp than yours Alan.
They realized the catch and wingtips would need to be changed.

Notice the poor detail on the eagles head.

Thanks, Tim. These two may well have come from the same source. While they did improve the wingtip and catch the hinge is still sloppy. The barrels on the wreath are not even and one has a saw cut on the top, that can't be seen in these pictures but isn't far off from the cut on yours. The eagle and wreath on both are very similar.

Bad luck Allan, looks like you got another of those top repros. Hope you can send it back again.
The one Mark shows is mine. Direct vet family obtained and belonged to the night fighter pilot Gerhard Saxonberg. Quiet a well known name in higher german circles.

I also examined one like shown by Tim. Nicely executed but not quiet right.

Richards is, as always, a really nice example.
