              Hi Thomas,

              I can only agree with Darrell that the Pilot Badge is almost certainly a reproduction. The eagle is "correct" but appears to be a casting of an original but the black/grey finish is wrong for a GWL eagle. The wreath, rivets, hinge & catch are totally wrong for a GWL.

              However, on the positive side, the case looks like a nice genuine early one.

                  Very interesting ... this is vet pick up and has been with me for a long time. Vet is till alive and I know his sister well as I am in touched with her in Canada. He was flying ME 110. It is not a repro ... not this one.

                        yup..........Darrell, you are right around 8:30... you can find this break on many GWL's LW badges.

                          Hi,

                          Thomas, based on your story, two possibilities spring to mind;

                          1) the vet has picked up this repro to replace his original,

                          or

                          2) someone has switched badges on him and he never noticed.

                          Did you ever ask him point-blank if the badge you have imaged is the EXACT same badge he was awarded pre-45?

                          Exactly "how long" have you had it? Pre-1980?

                          Regards
                          Mike K

                            Also, the hinge, catch, and rivets don't match what is expected from a GWL badge (however, I've been proven wrong before )

                              Nothing about it looks like an original GWL badge, in fact the eagle looks like a casting with the soft edges around the reverse.

                              Not all GWLs have the break in the ring so don´t hang yourselves up on that point.

                              I think Mike K´s signature says all you need to know.
