    Opinions on Pilot's Badge

    Hello, Everyone,

I am in need of some assistance from the members of the board. I have in my possession a Pilot's badge that I bought several years ago. I would like to know what people think. The person who sold it to me stated that it was awarded to a person whose sirname was "Beyer". The name has been scratched onto the back of the badge, but is not all that legible via the scans provided. (I purchased the badge because my sirname is also Beyer.)

Since this field of collecting is so daunting, I wanted to put it before everyone for scrutiny.

Any and all comments (public and private) are appreciated.
(Please note: The discoloration within the swastika are from my flatbed scanner.)

I deeply appreciate the opinions expressed by the members of this board.

The person that this badge has been attributed to is Fighter Ace Major Franz Beyer. He was credited with 81 victories. Beyer was a member of Jagdgeschwader 3, IV. Gruppe.

I have no documentation of this, but as I mentioned above, his name is written on the reverse of the wreath.

Currently, I am experiencing financial hard times and would consider selling this piece. Would anyone be able to provide me with a fair market value? If this question is inappropriate for this forum, please forgive my intrusion.

Without documentation or provenance,it's a great story belonging to a fighter ace but would not convince me to value it above a standard piece. It also has repairs which decreases the value. £375 is what I think it is a fair price amongst collectors.
