      Bob,

You need to post larger images than that. They should be about 4 times bigger than what you posted.

The badge looks promising. From what I can (barely) see of the hallmark, hinge, pin, and rivets .......... .

Thanks Mark. If you double click on it, it should expand.

          Robert,

The double click worked. The badge looks like a nice original Tombak RO/AG. I like the wear to the eagle's high points.

Many thanks Mark. Is it far to say that this eagle is more commonly found in Zinc?

            regards

              Bob,

I don't know about that. Remember, this badge was instituted pre-war. So all the RO/AG badges were being made in high quality Buntmetal. You'll find them in .800 silber, neu-silber, tombak, and mixtures of the same. The buntmetal badges were made, I would imagine, up through '43. I'm not sure right now (at work with no reference books) when the Air Gunner ohne blitzbundl (no sparks) award was instituted, but it is almost common to even find the tombak RO/AG badges modified for the Gunner award (the lightning bolts carefully filed off). My point is that the tombak pieces were still being made mid war. So figure.......... 1936 - 1943, the metal was tombak. 1944 - 45, zink.

                Bob,

You're correct. They were the third style in a progression and can be found in tombac and in zinc....
