Very good comparisons, I see exactly what your talking about. I figured that a true mini para badge would be two piece construction (like most of the other LW minis). I sure would like to see some more different styles to compare with. That is kind of why I stated earlier, that I wonder if jewelers made some that were not to the exact standard of the larger manufacterers (just a thought). Thanks again for the comparison pics, maybe some light is starting to be shed....

The manufacture of minis was heavily regulated, so much so, that in July 1943 16mm miniatures were subsequently forbidden to be manufactured, restricting minis to 9mm only. Additionally, from 1944 on, Steinhauer & Lück was the only company still allowed to produce minis (source LDO magazine).
I doubt jeweller made minis are more than very unique items, with the price for having one made by a jeweller being so much more than just buying one at a LDO shop.

Finally some development on the miniature section Here are some reflections from my part.

Dietrich, the numbered minis doesn't thrill me too much. Although I don't pay the same attention to the curls on the pins like others do, the type seen on your's makes my sceptic. The quality of the badges is also too poor. The time frame for production of these minis is limited to ONE month.

Andy, still no scanner . Just like Frank says, the quality of minis was regulated by the LDO. I'm fully convinced that anything coming out of a jewelery's shop would present at least the same quality, if not even better. Here are two U-boat minis, one regular 15.96mm and one that I believe is a privat manufacture 18.30mm. Both are die struck and the larger is worked over by hand, in order to create the high lights. This is clearly visible on i.g. the submarine.

Frank, you got me thinking (which is very dangerous). Does the regulation only apply to war badges, or were the other minis regulated as well? (ie the mini medals, mini crosses kvk/ek, government minis etc.).

And yes, Peter no scanner yet . But, what is your opinion of my paratrooper mini (my gut says no good, I don't like the way its attached or the pin).

Hi Andy.

To be honest, I've never encountered a 16mm Fallschirmsch.abz. only the 9mm. I've heard about 19mm, but I haven't seen them. I don't think I would be too interested in the one shown by you though, but that's just me

As far as I understand them, the mini regulations apply to all minis, not just war badges.

OK Guys,
I have one more question to bring up. As I understand it from about July 1943 16mm minis were all but abolished. I have been trying to get an antipartisan badge 16mm mini. Since that award was not instituted until January 1944, then I can conclude that my search is in vain. I also noted that in Detlev's book a mini apb is not listed. Does this sound correct. Or were there any 9mm minis made? Thanks again for the input, and I hope I'm not beating a dead horse.
