    Type 2 Badge

    Photo below. Differences from the Type 1 badge include a thinner neck on the eagle and omission of the burnishing from the top of the wing. These badges are generally found with the round wire catch and are usually maker marked. Some of this type of badge can be slightly thinner than others with obvious corresponding effect on the weight. It is this feature that draws me to the conclusion that this is the later version.

    Weights of this badge seem to fall in three catagories

    Heavy (as type 1) around 25.5 – 25.8g
    Medium 24.6g
    Light 23.5 – 23.9g

    The above observations should not be taken as black and white facts but highlight what I consider to be general differences. As always there are bound to be some exceptions and one can expect some overlap in features between the two types.

                Weight sounds about right to me, I would have expected it to be in the range of the "heavier" badges having the silver type catch.
