U-Boot badge Souval - good or bad?

    Hello friends,

I offered some Souval Repros in the Bazaar section for sale.

Now another fellow member told me to show the U-Boot badge to get the opinions of the experts.

    What do you think about?

    Thanks in advance!

    Best wishes
    Joerg

Quite a bit out of focus but the only one I have with this angle.

                  Hi Joerg,

This to me also looks like a nice original in very good condition.

I still know of some collectors who consider every RS badge with this type of mm a fake but personally I believe this to be a misconception based upon a certain book we all know.

Just took a look at your thread in the "bazaar" and I would agree that all the other badges are indeed RS copies. Let me ask you a question why did you yourself think this U-boat badge belonged in that lot. Did you aquire all these badges together or do you have any information that led you to believe that this also was a copie?

I did get all the badges together, also some more Luftwaffe and Heer badges.
Most of them are the typical Souval Copies we all know, with the typical postwar catch. There were also a few original badges in this group I bought, but none of the "better" ones - only WB´s, KVK´s, East Front Medal´s etc.
I did not thought about the subbadge because of the Souval mark.

                    Best wishes

                    Joerg

Looks okay to me...but seeing that it came with that group of fake Souvals..could it be possible that some Souval fakes match the originals in construction?

John, it came with fakes and originals.
If I would not have told about the fakes, would you say it is okay or not okay?

An old man collected these badges and he had a few original ones from private purchase and the other ones he bought as reproductions. I can not say where he got the U-Boat-Badge from.

                        Best wishes

                          HI Joerg:

I do feel it is original and it also seems to be an exact match to Terry's piece. Maybe the collector that had it assumed it was fake because of the "RS" markings...in the old days many of the "RS" marked pieces were assumed to be fake so he could have put it together with the other pieces.

I once saw a "RS" auxiliary cruiser badge that was correct in all aspects...but it also had the "L/58" marking on the reverse and that puzzled me. This makes me suspect that Souval may have had a good amount of wartime badges leftover in inventory that were sold a good time after the war (IE maybe into the 50s).

                          John

In my opinion original, but possibly refinished. I do not like the look of the finish.
                            Cheers, Frank
