    Interesting Deumer Destroyer

Believe this a rare variant Deumer, that might interest some of the members here!

I have not received the badge yet and only have these pics.
    Swastika removed, tombak?.

        Swastika removed

I got the badge home. Made some closeup of the removed Swastika area.
When part of the badge is removed, should the grey zinc come to light?

Is this really a zinc badge??

        Thanks

What you can see under the finish is copper undercoat since those uncommon zincers are copper plated.

But can you remove that much of the swastika without the ground metal (the zink?) coming to daylight?

Good question. I'm not sure what we're seeing here. Maybe made of Tombak after all? It sure would be nice to have a materials analysis on this one.

                        Best regards,
                        ---Norm

                          Hi

                          Hi

I will not call me a Expert on materials or on marine badges. My feeling in
hand are Tombak, and the removed part looks like tombak.

Would weight info maybe also be a clue.

I do not own many KM badges, but compared it with another badge.

Deumer destroyer weight around 25,1 G, the Juncker Minesweeper 24,3 G
Would estimate the Juncker to be maybe the largest badge, so the materiel of the
Destroyer most be a Little bit more heavy.

                          BR

Your Destroyer looks well worn and if it was made of zink, we could expect it to be more gray. IMO. My guess is Buntmetall (Tombak).

I have to agree, which is intriguing. I've never before seen that type of hinge on a Tombak Kriegsmarine badge -- only on zinc. And the finish seems different from the usual Deumer vertical pin Tombak Destroyer (like the one attached). Up until now we've assumed a timeline for both the Deumer Destroyer and Minesweeper badges of:
                              1) Tombak vertical round-wire pin setup
                              2) Tombak horizontal wide pin
                              3) zinc horizontal wide pin

So I wonder where Nicolai's would fit in -- perhaps between (1) and (2)?

                              Best regards,
