How do you maintain these so that they keep their finish so well? Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful examples.

I just keep them in leuchtturm cases in dark, warm and dry conditions and try not to touch them with bare hands. That's it.

Recently I've been able to expand my u-boat fleet by two Friedrich Orth zincers. They are both in similiar very good condition and show typical faded gilt usual for this maker. Here they are

First one is zinc FO U-boat with horizontal pin, type 5.6.1 in the classification system.

In hand they look much nicer but my old scanner could not pick the slightly yellow tone of the finish on the obverse.

I am almost satisfied with my U-boat fleet for a moment but have to say that they succesfully diverted my attention for a while from my primary interest area which is Minesweeper badges. I'll try to sidestep all U-boat badges during this Kassel show
