hollow back sub badge...real?

i received this for verification of authenticity from a gal here in town who got this years back from an uncle....is it real?
it came with a very cool customized jewelry box that had several miniatures (sub,ek sp[ange, and a kreigs eagle)attached to the front....i know hollow backs exist but are quite rare and i haveno data base for these.

The pin reminds me of the repro pins you saw on badges over the last 30 years...they have since improved the pins...but otherwise I could not say about the badge, John

ps..these pins start out flat, then round a bit, then go flat again...
