    Zinc Schwerin Uboot

    Gents,

Picked this one up today and got flak from the other people aound me. They all think this is a modern copy, mainly based on the extremly shiny surface. I like it (otherwise I would´nt have bought it!)

    Other opinions, comments please.

I'm not an expert on these...but I would have bought it, too!
The shiny coat may be from some clear acrylic that I have seen put on badges that gives it the same appearance.

          Hi Skip,

How's things? mmmmm, interesting badge. I must admit at first glance I don't have feeling for this one. The hinge is not orientated as how I would expect, the catch is also not what I would expect and the style of the naming looks different and shorter to what I am used to. You can get them with shallow stamping like this but the font is different.

          Any chance of some dimensions?

          Regards
          Rob

            Thanks guys,

Lorenzo, I am glad that you see it like I do.
Rob, you have now got me worried as well. I´m not at home but I will get some dimensions up tommorow.

              Skip,

Dimensions should be in the range:

              38.9 - 39.0mm x 48.2 - 48.4mm

              Regards

                Hi Skipy,

                Were do you find them.

As far as I'm aware of nobody ever saw a mm zink Schwerin u-boat. We always believed they might be Schwerin made but there still were some doubts.

For me the badge itself is absolutely genuine and a perfect match to this example with the exception of the non cut swas and deck gun but these are acceptable differences that we already encountered on these badges.

The mm is more difficult since we have nothing to compare it with on zinc U-boats. Compared to the tombak examples this mm is much thinner.

The measurments on my badge are hight 39,0 mm, width 48,1.

reverse, notice also the slighty angled cut of the pin, just like yours

                          Dear Skip,

That is one I also would have bought! Looks very convincing, also the finish and the aging on it.
                          Cheers, Frank
