EVERYTHING this seller lists seems to be on the high side, IMHO

        HE CAN ALWAYS GO DOWN

Sellers like this can always go down easier than they can go up.

            Hi Rodney;

I kind of suspected he got quite a few if not all of his items from Detlev.
            Best regards,

            Tony

              Is With Us

Hi Guys - The seller of the HSF is actually an Association Member HERE! Last post in Feb. 2002 - Any thoughts or questions about his auctions, try seding him a PM - Look under members for "dkelley" In one of his nine posts he praises Detlev. I'm sure he's monitoring what's being said here at the Forum, just not posting.

I thought the seller name seemed familiar. It should be mentioned that there is nothing actually wrong with what is doing, but to me it is a shame that he (or anyone) would take advantage of Detlevs great prices just to resell at a large markup. I would rather see the items end up in a private collection so that they might be shared with us here, instead of languishing in a dealers stagnant inventory.

I took a look at the rest of the things he has listed on epier - many of them are very nice. However, his prices are downright outrageous and, given the fact that nobody ever seems to bid on anything on epier anyway, he will have to come down with those prices eventually.

                    Wow..way high

Very much over priced (IMHO). The SS 8 Year at $789.00!!!! I would say that's at least double!

I would expect to see a ticket around $200 lower for a mint in the box item .

I had a look at his auctions and just from a quick glance I didn’t see anything that would raise eyebrows. Prices may be high but he has the “right” to charge what he wants for his stock and you, the buyer have the “right” to pass on it if the price doesn’t meet within your expectations / financial limit. As the old saying goes “a fool and their money soon part.” If someone is just a “net collector” who jumps in and buys something without researching the piece and comparing prices they deserve the fate they shall surely receive.

I dunno.....I dropped a couple of Ben Franklins with this dude already.....Then, I make him what I consider a fair offer on the Minesweepers badge ($200 versus his $259) a day or so ago through the Ask Question function on epier because I saw where Rodney said he's done that and the seller had been pretty responsive. Well, I didn't even get the courtesy of a F.O. He just completely ignored me. I think that's pretty damn rude especially when it's a previous customer. I don't believe I'll be buying anything else from him.

Many people post things on auctions and something else will come up and they are away from their computers for a few days. This guy may not be ignoring you. As far as his prices go, well it is his and that is his asking price. Lesiure time has some great stuff with equally high prices. Something is worth what someone is willing to pay. At least dkelley is selling good items which is not the way it usually goes on epier.

In the car business we used to say that their is an ass for every seat. We sold everyone of them sooner or later. We used to get $3000 over STICKER for a Pontiac Fiero back when they were hot. Someone will want it sooner of later. Ten years from now this price will seem like a steal. Unlike the Fiero, this fleet badge will only increase in value.

I hope the guy sells it. Someone will get a good one and he'll make a few bucks. That's the basis of a good deal when someone gets what they pay for and the seller makes a profit. Everybody is happy.

                            Hello,

I think we are all responsible for the high prices.
If I get an item for (lets say) 300$ and I sell it for 320$ to a person. And after a week this person sell it to an other person and sell it for 350$. Then we make the price higher and higher.
So what I'm trying to say is that if we respect the price it will be payable for all the collectors. The high sea fleet badges will be available for a long time (always). So why make the price higher.
It is not because it's older (a week) that we have to sell it for 4% more.
I think we have to keep that in mind. If we want to continue collecting we have to think about the price.
Or els after 10 years a high sea fleet badge will cost a 1000$.
And we don't want that do we?
That is my opinion. What do you think about it?

                            Greetings to you all
                            Nick

In 10 years they probably will......

Look at the way the prices of Knight's Crosses have shot though the roof. Even the price of the humble Iron Cross is steadily rising Price reflects demand, if nobody wanted this stuff it would be basically worthless. It’s the same with everything old cars, antiques and collector coins. Buy up now because in 10 years your dollar will get you even less.
