    Hi inimicus,

It's a well-known fake. See this thread for another:
    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ght=fo+coastal

As Mike mentions in that thread these "f.o." Destroyers are probably by the same con artist who made the fake "S.H.u.Co." Coastal Artillery badges.

    Best regards,
    ---Norm

I agree. I would even take it a bit further and say that the f.o. Destroyer, S.H.u.Co. Coastal Artillery, and R.S.S. High Seas Fleet fakes were all the work of the same forger. All three of these fake badges flooded the collector market at the same time (early 90s) and all three have very similar traits. Although the badges themselves seem to be made from a strong (modern) alloy, the pins on these are soft like lead and will bend very easily. I noticed that the S.H.u.Co. Coastal Artillery fake was first pictured in the second edition (1993) of Forman's Guide to Third Reich Awards...and Their Values on page #108. And, incidentally, one of only a few photos in the entire book that has no photo credit. That always struck me as odd.

          Best regards,
          Tom

I guess if I searched hard enough I would find a thread where I HAD added the RSS HSF as a relation to these fakes. I certainly agree completely.

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

Andy and William have posted these badges before, but just to complete the "family" in this thread here is the fake R.S.S. Fleet badge, both marked and unmarked.

                Best regards,
