    Tirpitz badge

    Hi!

I have this nice looking Tirpitz badge, so I'd like to start a small discussion about its originality.
It was bought as original pin, but as I know nothing about those pins (apart from the fact I really like it) I'm asking more knowledgeable colleagues here.
    Thanks in advance.

    And here are the pics:

    Hi,

Sorry, but it is a current reproduction. If you search the net, you'll find exactly the same thing available for 10-15 Euro. I found this out when I picked mup one EXACTLY like yours, only in better condition.

Yes, I saw the new ones, but something interesting here.

      If you look here:
      http://www.reddickmilitaria.com/mm5/...de=200-240-045

even if it looks the same it's not.

The one I posted is done in a more rough way, with uneven (compared to the one on a link) black vertical parts, so I thought it might be period item.

I just couldn't find one like this on the Internet. They are all too nice and square to be good. This one attracted me just because it's so uneven.

      But maybe I'm wrong.

Can you post o photo of yours? Is it the same?

        ......

There's one of these on Weitze's site. I'll post it up for comparison. I can't say I like the 'Ges Gesch' mark on the back of yours.

This is what I thought when comparing that one one Weitze site with mine. The vertical line is of the same shape, a bit thicker on the lower part. All other parts of the obverse also match.

              Interesting thread here, also:
              http://forum.germandaggers.com/ubbth...&Number=257970

It seems that no official badges had such recessed square Ges Gesch writing on the obverse.

It also seems that it's destroyed on Weitze one ;-).

Also, it seems that there is a known original pin with such Ges Gesch in recessed square, which confuses me additionaly.

I'm sure there were private purchases, so any jeweler could make it. GG mark is somewhat similar to today TM or so.

I wouldn't rely on pin from Weitze site, as the dealers are also taking all kind of stuff. Were there any official tallies of Bismarck and Tirpitz? I doubt, yet we can find many out there claimed to be originals.

I'll throw it out for consideration: Veterans reunion badge? Along with stick pins

I'm not sure up to which date "Ges Gesch" was used.

I would say it's possible that those are private purchase items, just like the plaques. Not official items of any kind.

Veteran reunion badge is also possible, why not, but than why "Ges Gesch" mark?

I think I found out what this badge represents. As I suspected, it's traditional badge for the former Tirpitz crewmen. Here is a copy from Andre's page, with the same badge (I added the translation in English). I want to add it for further reference:
