I am curious - what metal is plated on the waterspout of minesweeper badges? It can't be silver because it does not tarnish.

No, not echt silber, more like neusilber or German "nickel-silver", which is an alloy that contains no real silver - although that does not normally idiots from "scratch-testing" it!
