U boot badge: buntmetal or zinc?

    hello all

yes i cant make my mind up about this badge,

I have no doubts that it is original. the seller says it is buntmetal but I have only seen this type in zinc.

The obverse looks like it could be buntmetal however the reverse looks like a zinc sort of finish.

    any comments appreciated

    cheers

    Hi Dave,

100% zink, no doubt in my mind. You can see grey peeping out on the highpoints on the obverse and look how grey the left side of the reverse wreath it. Also, the hinge and catchplate as you say are clues. Finally, you can even see some finishing bubbling from zinc oxidation on the reverse. None of this would occur on a tombak badge.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

        Hi,

Although I believe the badge is probably zinc because of the grey seeping through on the reverse, it should be kept in mind that badges with THIS hardware CAN be found in tombak/buntmetal. I am thinking of the "Wiedmann" Wound Badges and EK1s here.

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

Ask for the weight. That will tell you what it is made of.

Quite possibly a wartime unmaarked RS in zinc. It should be priced accordingly. John
