I recently acquired the Soldbuch of Major Horst Waldeck, who was a pre-war Panzer soldier, served in Panzer units from September 1939 until he was killed in action on 18 April 1945. The Panzerkampfabzeichen (Tank Assault Badge) is entered in his Soldbuch and he wears a Panzerkampfabzeichen in his Soldbuch photo. To me, the Panzerkampfabzeichen doesn't appear to be a Panzerkampfabzeichen in Silber (Tank Assault Badge in Silver), which was awarded for participating in 3 tank battles. I would expect such a long-serving Panzer officer who attained the rank of Major to have participated in 25 or more tank battles. Although the Panzerkampfabzeichen II. Stufe (Tanks Assault Badge IInd Level) for participating in 25 tank battles is not listed in the Soldbuch, I am wondering if the badge in the photo is a Panzerkampfabzeichen in Silber or a Panzerkampfabzeichen II. Stufe. One dealer/collector I showed the photos to said it appears that the badge is too large to be a Panzerkampfabzeichen in Silber. What do other Panzerkampfabzeichen collectors have to say?

P.S. As a Soldbuch collector, I can tell you that it is not unusual for awards that were earned were not always entered in a Soldbuch for various reasons.
