    L56 Heeresflak question

    Hi Guys,

I'm way out of my field here, but I was searching for spurious L56 marks and came across this "L56" Heeresflak badge, originally posted in 2003 by the late Mike Pinkus but also other photos of the same example reposted in later years to favourable reviews. Perhaps I'm missing something but are the vast majority of unmarked badges of this type still called "unmarked L56" or has the L56 mark subsequently been reassessed to be a post-war marking? It sure doesn't look right to me...

    Best regards,
    ---Norm

The reason I ask is, the identical L56 mark appears on this "unknown maker" GAB which can also be found with a spurious L12 mark. Perhaps I'm just reinventing the wheel here and the L56 mark has already been discredited?

I have only seen (as far as I recall!) that marking on fakes.
The most obvious a Panzerkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe!
Also on a Ostvolk, 2. Klasse in Gold.

          Hi Norm,

This L56 mark is also found on Postwar S&L Para badges, I show it in the Para book. These Paras are also found with L12 mark like that GAB you show, so there is some very good consistency with these spurious marks (either being done by S&L or another thought is they were added by a dealer to increase their value).

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Thanks for the confirmation guys. I figured it was the same fake marking on the Flak as on the post-war S&L Para but was surprised at the lack of confirmation posted to date, and indeed only old postings of support for the so-called "rare L56 Flak badge". Best to set the record straight for future reference.

"Both flaks" are actually the same example but two different photos posted at two different times here over the years.

            Best regards,

Interestingly the badges do have all the hallmarks of Funke badges - non?

Here is a badge from Garlasco's collection that he posted ages ago.

                    Hi Nick,

Hard to say, pretty generic setups. The originator(s) of the "L12", "L56" and other post-war markings seem to have slapped them on to whatever late war and post-war badges they could get their hands on easily - hence a lot of S&L and Souval -- but I guess anything leftover was fair game circa 1970?

"Juncker" markings were certainly a popular choice.

                    Best regards,
                    ---Norm

Nice compares Norm! You do great graphics. The other two posted though certainly look like Funcke setups though. Thanks for the info
