Help needed with PAB, what maker?

I am looking to purchase my first PAB, I have the opportunity to buy this badge. I believe that it might be an unmarked S&L. But I am not sure. Does it look original?

    Thanks, Randy

Agreed, not often seen in silver in this variant

A good one and as Chad mentioned not so easily found in the silver grade.

                Scrape or?

To me, it appears to be a wartime oval dimple on the upper pin. But you guys have a lot more experience than I do, what do you guys think? I have already agreed to purchase the badge, but could cancel it.

                Thanks, Randy

                  Hi Randy,
If you are only going to have one or two PAB's why bother with zinc? Far better to purchase tombac or NS. The finish won't go to hell like the example shown and the value will be better in the long run. On common items such as this, zinc stinks!

                    PAB mark on pin

You are probably right, but I have already given my word to purchase this badge. I mailed the money order today. Are there any opinions on the tool mark? Does it look wartime?

The seller is a member of this forum and we'll respected.

Thanks again for all of the help,
                    Randy

                      Tooling marks on PAB pin

I have received the PAB and have taken a few close-up photographs of the tooling mark on the pin. I believe that it is a good mark of an original, but any comments are appreciated.

                      Thanks, Randy

                          PAB maker

Thanks guys for the help, I very much appreciate it. I have received some PM's stating that the badge looks good and is a keeper. Now I am tempted to start collecting different makers of these impressive badges.
                          best regards,
                          Randy

                            Hi Randy,

Nice original S&L. The tool mark on the pin is indeed the "wartime dimple" as you correctly identified, so I would feel comfortable with it being at least considered a wartime-compatible badge. With S&L you have to be careful since they made badges postwar, but everything I see on your example is perfectly fine for a wartime badge. A nice original IMO.

Don't mind Chet, zinc is where its at!!

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
